To all the women in my life

Tomorrow is International Women’s Day, but I wanted to share a Shero Saturday blog post today for all of the important women in my life (you know who you are). Writing this is so important to me because I’ve realized how much the women in my life have lifted me up, especially this past year. 

Some of you have known me since I was an awkward girl going through puberty and some of you may have only known me for several months. But what I know for sure is that you know a kindred spirit when you meet them. This is for all my kindred spirits.

To all the women in my life, 

You and I still laugh at the same jokes that we thought were funny last week, a couple of months ago, or maybe even a decade ago. 

You will sing ABBA, Celine Dion, Backstreet Boys and broadway classics with me because who doesn’t love a good sing-a-long.

You will listen when I need to vent because talking it out is how I sort my thoughts and emotions. 

You and I know that I’m an old lady and you’re totally cool with that. 

You have accepted that I will never stop talking about Jane Austen or the latest period piece that came out on Netflix. 

You will also drag me out of the house for something that you know I will have a good time at even though I’d rather drink tea and read.

You eat the food I’ve cooked and baked because you know it’s my love language.

You cheer for my successes and get vindictive when I’m upset. 

You challenge me when I can grow or when I need a tough conversation. 

You mean so much to me and I can’t imagine life without you. 

I feel loved. I feel supported. I feel heard. 

I smile. I laugh. I sing. I dance. 

I am stronger.

I am smarter. 

I am confident. 

All because of you.
