Thank you for reading My Own Narrative!

I started My Own Narrative six weeks ago with no expectations. My Own Narrative is a project I started for myself, but I am so incredibly honoured by the response it has been getting. In six weeks, I’ve had over 1,500 views on my site and so many of you have come up to me and to tell me that you’ve enjoyed reading it. I’m so grateful for your support and hope that my thoughts are making a positive impact on your day.

I thought I would take this opportunity to talk about why I started the blog and some questions that readers have been asking me.

Why did you start My Own Narrative?
You may have read my post for Bell Let’s Talk Day a couple of weeks ago. It was during this anxiety-filled time period that I came up with an idea to start a blog. I’m pretty much an open book and I’m happy to talk about my life and my experiences if it can help and inspire others. I also read a lot of books and people ask me all the time for recommendations. I could talk about books for hours and hours so I wanted to put my favourite ones and my thoughts about them in one place.

Interested in what I’m reading? More blog posts to come on this, but you can follow what I’m reading on my Goodreads account. I have a goal of reading 40 books this year so lots of recommendations to come.

I never knew that you could write so well?
This is literally a question/statement that I get from so many people. And honestly, I didn’t know that I could write either until a couple of years ago. I’ve worked in marketing and communications for the past seven years and as I progress in my career, I’ve pushed myself to take on roles that require more creativity… and more writing. If you asked me in high school, I would have told you that my writing was mediocre. Now, I love writing and it’s a creative outlet for me.

If you can write an email, you can write anything. It just takes practice and experience to become a better writer. I will also say that there is an art to writing good emails and it is something that everyone should practice.

How is the elimination diet going?
I went to the naturopath a couple of weeks ago and she was so pleased with the results of taking out dairy, alcohol, caffeine, and sugar. Right now, you could say that I’m doing a semi-elimination diet. I’ve really come to enjoy being creative in cooking and trying to avoid dairy and sugar in what I’m eating. When I’m making food for myself at home, I avoid dairy and sugar, but when I’m out with friends or want to make a good meal, I won’t stress out about it and will just try to avoid dairy.

Last night was Valentine’s Day and I told Andrew that all I wanted to do is eat pizza. Pizza is my favourite food of all time and before the elimination diet, I would eat pizza at least once a week. It was totally worth the cheat meal, but my body is not feeling 100% this morning.

Are you going to write more Shero Saturday posts?
That’s the plan! I have so many ideas for who I want to write about that I’m having a hard time deciding which one will be next.

If you’ve been reading My Own Narrative, thank you so much for supporting me and this project. If any of my posts make you smile, reflect on life, or inspire you to read a book, then I’m accomplishing more than I could imagine.

I’m always looking for new ideas so if there’s something you would like me to write about, comment below!
